Understanding all the variables of your custom cushion estimate such as dimensions, cording type, fabric, and tufting type can help streamline your Hearth and Home purchase and ensure you get accurate pricing. We want to help you every step of the way to help you save money, receive accurate pricing, and rest easy knowing you have made the best purchase for your home. Let us be your custom cushion source!
When designing a custom cushion it is very important to get complete and accurate measurements of the area. The first question we will ask you is for the dimensions, in order to get an estimate we can typically work with the length of the longest side of your space and the depth from front to back. Depending on the shape of your space we may ask for additional dimensions, photos, or even a template before we begin production of your custom cushion.
For Bay Window Cushions and most other custom spaces we use diagrams to help identify the sides and translate the measurements to us easier. Every window and bench is different and we always encourage sending photos or diagrams to help us better understand your space. Below you will see the images we use for bay window cushions.
A lot of the bay windows we see are not a basic four sided trapezoid but have what we call “sides”. The sides are easy to forget about but we always recommend measuring all the edges just in case. We can design a cushion to fit any space.
Another dimension you need to have in mind is the thickness you prefer for your cushion. We can make any thickness you would like. The most popular thickness for our standard cushions is 3”, this includes a 3” thick foam wrapped in Dacron. The dacron wrap adds about an inch up to two inches to the overall height of the cushion. If there is a desired overall thickness just let us know so we can get the correct foam thickness and make sure we reach the desired result.
Tufting and Cording
Prior to placing your order or inquiring about an estimate, it is important to understand the tufting options. Our hand tufting technique has been passed down from generation to generation and requires more attention to detail in order to ensure it is the perfect hand-crafted item you will treasure for years. Because it is very labor intensive this also means that it is the most expensive tufting option. We also offer a Button Tufted option which typically includes top and bottom cording and buttons tufted in the center. Our standard cushions are estimated with top and bottom cording or piping which can be removed from your project depending on personal preference and style or to reduce the cost.
Part of getting a custom cushion means there are numerous options available to you! This is definitely true with fabric choices, all of which vary in price. When searching our fabric library you will notice our fabrics are graded. Grade A fabrics are typically 100% cotton and include both printed fabrics and solid cotton fabrics. Fabrics that are grade B are somewhat better quality and include both cotton and linen. Grade C and above includes our high performance, crypton, and sunbrella. Finally, grade D fabrics are mostly Velvets and selected outdoor fabrics.
If you’re looking for a particularly durable fabric, we recommend Crypton. This fabric is extra durable, easy to clean and stain resistant. In fact, Crypton Sky is the leading indoor fabric for stain resistance in the industry. Another great option for both indoor and outdoor is Sunbrella, which has also been recognized for its durability and resistance to stains. This fabric can be bleached and has a five year, no-fade warranty.
Before ordering, reflect on your lifestyle and the intended users of your cushions. This, combined with a knowledge of which fabrics are washable and easy to clean, can help you pick the perfect fabric for your cushion. Keep in mind we can source almost any fabric.
Lastly, to receive an accurate estimate, we need to know your zip code. We offer free shipping on most orders unless they are over size and require additional handling. Having the zip code available allows us to get an accurate cost upfront and estimate your project accurately.
